Guest Bedroom Update

I did a little more decorating in the guest bedroom over the weekend, and I wanted to share some pictures with you today.

The antique commode got restyled with the antique drawings, a large clam shell, and a bamboo and jute stool.

I like the orange book mixed in the otherwise neutral vignette. I think a little dose of bright orange invigorates any space.

The right side of the guest bedroom.

The corner seating area.

I still need curtains for the window. I'd love to use any of these linen fabrics from LL Textile.

The left side of the bedroom is still yet to be decorated.

An antique sewing cabinet with a blue and white porcelain lamp.

I'm going to paint this sewing cabinet in dark navy like this.

All Dolled Up

I probably won't distress the cabinet as much as the above piece, but I think the dark navy will look great against the gray green wall.

Across from the antique commode is a queen size bed. As you can see, this side also needs TLC.

So, I went to my Pinterest board for some inspiration.

or with an upholstered tufted headboard (this one is probably my favorite.)

Decisions, decisions...

Happy Monday, everyone!

  2. The bamboo stool is gorgeous, Yuko! Such a great clam shell too! My husband is from Hawaii, and my mother in law gave me a big box of unique shells from there. I have been wanting to do something special with them but haven't decided yet. Any ideas, please share.
P.S. I've been taking a computer break, but I'm still here :) Deni

    1. Hi Deni! It's great you're taking a computer break. I spend way too much time online, so I might need to take a break soon myself. You gave me the idea about a bamboo stool, remember? ;-) If I had a big box full of beautiful shells, I would love to decorate my resin bust with them. Or I would love to make a mirror like those - http://www.pinterest.com/pin/164662930099938702/

  3. Looks beautiful. I love the wall color. Considering you have the best luck in the world via Craigslist, I'm sure you'll find a gorgeous headboard!

    1. Thanks Stephen! Oh I haven't spent much time on Craigslist lately, but you're right, CL is the place to score a good, inexpensive headboard. Now you know what I'll be doing tonight ;-)

  5. i love that pop of orange on the commode!! i'm wondering if that color could be the main accent color used throughout the room. when i saw the blue checked pillow on the chair, i immediately wondered if that area would tie to the commode area better if the pillow there was orange. thoughts?

    1. Yes, an orange pillow would definitely work. I'm experimenting with both orange and light blue as accent colors (I will probably use mostly light blue), but I will change things around if the entire room feel disjointed. You are right, those are two strong colors and they need to be skillfully combined ;-)

    2. And oh, putting the yellow flowers there probably didn't help either ;)
